Beth Orton plays a very special one-off acoustic show in London this weekend in support of the campaign to Save The Social. Very special guests on the night will be Sam Amidon and Trevor Moss and Hannah-Lou. Wendy Barrett, Tash Lee McCluney and Jeff Barrett playing records before and between the live acts.
A singular talent, Beth Orton was the outlier for a British folk revival that became mainstream over the last two decades. Each of her six albums effortlessly intertwines gorgeous acoustics, forward thinking electronics and Beth’s inimitable and beautiful voice. Beth’s music has been linked to the Social for as long as each has been in the public eye – first as an unstinting regular at the early Heavenly Sunday Social nights and a guest on the first Chemical Brothers album then as one of the two residents at the spin-off club night Acoustically Heavenly. When Beth won Best Female Artist at the 2000 Brit Awards (coincidently the same year the Chemical Brothers won Best Dance Act), the after party was held at the recently opened Social.
The Save The Social campaign began via Crowdfunder on March 13th 2019 – the aim being to stop the immediate sale of the much loved London venue. Having reached the initial fundraise figure within 7 days of announcement, The Social will now extend the fund to try to buy a bigger chunk of the business to secure and properly plan the venue’s future.
