The Roves hail from the suburbs of North London. The band play guitar fuelled British rock and roll music. In just under a year (May 2018 â April 2019) The Roves have released two stunning albums â âThe Rovesâ & âAll Those Freaksâ. Their S/T debut album popped out of nowhere in 2018 gleaming with bright jangle pop and classic songwriting moments which won the hearts of anyone who heard it. âThe Rovesâ made number five in the best international albums of 2018 by Hipersonica in Spain. Their latest LP âAll Those Freaksâ (Meritorio) was released in April 2019 and added a dose of raw folk flare to their spirited 60âs sound. One reviewer recently described the new LP as âA treasure of the blessed hellâ. It has since gone on to top the Hotel Azizona blogâs albums of the year. The Roves recent single âHey Little Manâ was released on September 14th 2019 via El Rancho. The track is a re recorded version of a track from their latest album and was recorded to tape at Ray Daviesâs Konk Studios in London. The single has received praise of the highest indie order from the likes of Bobby Gillespie, Stephen Pastel, John Cavanagh, Alan McGee and Gerry Love who has described it as an âinstant classicâ. The single caught the ears of Gideon Coe who has played both the A and B side a number of times on his BBC6 Music show plus Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales who played it on his show a number of times and finally Iggy Pop who opened his âIggy Confidentialâ BBC6 Music show (09/01/20) with âHey Little Manâ praising the track as ârefreshing and approachableâ. You donât get much better than that! The Roves closed 2019 touring extensively across Europe with Nick Waterhouse and in the UK with YAK and Primal Scream where they were the main support on seven dates of their Maximum Rock ânâ Roll tour. Over lockdown they released an EP called âThe Big Silverâ again on El Rancho to make good on their recent success and received further airplay on BBC Radio Scotland, the lead single âFixing To Burnâ finding its way onto Spotify curated playlists. Finishing touches are currently being made to a new LP recorded at Abbey Road Studios and mixed by Dom Monks (long time collaborator with Big Thief, Ethan Johns, Tom Jones and Paul McCartney) due out this year and the band will be back out on the road to support the new release.
