Greg Wilson launches the new extended hardback of his Discotheque Archives book at The Social in London on Friday 24 February 2023. Following a brilliant night at the venue twelve months ago, Greg felt this would be the perfect environment in which to launch the book, the first of a series of Discotheque Archives events up and down the country.
The book explores the pre-rave era of dance music, spanning the ‘60s through until the mid-80s via its four main sections – Classic DJs, Classic Labels, Classic Venues and Classic Records. With props from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, Luke Una, Irvine Welsh and John Higgs – Discotheque Archives book can be ordered here
Greg’s guest is also one of his greatest inspirations – Les Spaine, arguably the UK’s leading Funk DJ, working at The Pun and The Timepiece in Liverpool back in the ‘70s, before heading to London to take up a position at Motown Records. He subsequently moving to Capital Records and managed the Reggae greats Aswad during their most successful period. The Timepiece is one of the book’s Classic Venues, illuminating the pioneering role Les played in UK club culture.
Les will be playing tracks from The Timepiece era, whilst Greg will be selecting from the vast array of records listed in the book.
