Samuel Hickson is an illustrator and cartoonist based in Staffordshire. His style blends traditional drawing techniques with digital colour and has evolved to fit various contexts including editorial illustration, comics and posters for Stoke-on-Trent raves. His work has been published in national magazines such as Mojo, Little White Lies and The Big Issue.
He writes and draws the anthology comic book series Liquid Realm, a work of satirical psychedelia which has become a small press success worldwide. In 2023, he co-founded Underground Kingdom Comix, which showcases stylistically diverse work from the nation’s leading cartoonists. He has been published in the UK by Tribute Press and internationally by Zine Panique and Spread Love.
In addition to gathering highlights from Liquid Realm 1 and 2, this exhibition offers an exclusive chance to see excerpts from the forthcoming Liquid Realm 3 before its completion and release. It is a comprehensive selection of Hickson’s recent output, including original hand-drawn comic book pages, risograph prints and other drawings.
